Miracle Word--2

I'm much more intentional about what I wear these days. Learning about sweatshops and slavery around the world, and how millions of people are abused to make the clothes I wear, I almost always ask "Who made it?" when I'm buying clothing.

So, today, I was wearing my MiracleWord.net shirt, when a lady asked me, "What's the Miracle Word?" I answered, "It's the incredible Story that God invites us to join." We talked a few minutes more about the Scriptures and how a lot of people have a lot of opinions about it, but don't really know what it says.

Making the error of extreme generalization, American Christianity revolves around a phrase that is not biblical.

"God helps those who help themselves."

Ben Franklin said this. Not Jesus. Not any prophet.

For too long, Americans have read the Scriptures and made them say what they wanted. And, if so read, you too can be rich, self-serving, racist, and own slaves.

But what if the Scriptures are an invitation?

What if we are being invited into a world that truly believes peace and love are a better response than war and revenge?
What if we are being invited into a world that believes taking care of the person in the ditch is the most important thing we can do at that time?
What if we are being invited into a world where we are all members of the same family?

The challenge and struggle of MiracleWord.net is this, if we really read God's Story, we will be changed. Because in God's Story, how we treat others--regardless of whether or not we see them--is how we treat Him.

And for that reason, I'll be a little more picky and better-informed about the clothes on my back.

(And a great place to look is www.nosweatapparel.com)
